About
The Sydney Paddle Surfing Club (SPSC) was established in June 2009, to unite the paddle surfers of the Sydney area and have regular get-togethers where we can compete and have some fun. We will be holding six events throughout the year with each one containing a surfing contest, a paddling race and a freestyle expression session. Different categories exist for men, women and juniors - making it a true family focused club which is all about having fun. The club is the first of its kind in NSW.
SPSC holds its events on the second Sunday of the month, every second month (the even months). The season starts in August with the final event of the year being held in June. See the events page for a full list of the events for this year.
The format of a typical event is:
Surfing Contest - this is a standard format surfing contest with heats of four or five surfers battling it out for progression to the next round. There will generally be two rounds (heats and semis) before the final. Points for each place will be allocated to everyone who enters and will tally together with other results for that year to create the ranking in the annual championship pointscore. End of year prizes and trophies will be presented to the top place getters in the annual championship.
Paddle Race - A short-course race is set up at each event for three divisions of racers - Junior (under 16), Women and Open. Board lengths are limited to 12'6". Everyone receives allocated points for their place over the line which accumulates in their division's annual pointscore for the end of year rankings (a separate pointscore to the surfing contest). Small prizes are awarded to the fastest Juniors on the day with bigger prizes and trophies being awarded to the top places in each division at the end of the season.
Membership to the Sydney Paddle Surfing Club is open to all but only financial members may compete at the events.
See the [membership page] to pre-register your details today or fill in a form at one of the events.
